About Sacha Inchi
Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis) is a climbing plant native to the Amazon rainforest, now cultivated across Southeast Asia and South America. Its seeds yield an oil unusually rich in omega-3 ALA (~48% of total fatty acids) and a protein powder containing all nine essential amino acids at approximately 60% protein by weight.
The global Sacha Inchi market is estimated at USD 107โ170 million in 2025, growing at a CAGR of 10โ13% through 2032, driven by demand for plant-based omega-3 alternatives to fish oil, allergen-free protein sources, and cosmetic actives. Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing region at approximately 14% CAGR, with Southeast Asia โ where Asia Eco Farm operates โ emerging as a key supply origin alongside Peru.
Key Story Angles
- The Southeast Asia difference: While Peru dominates Sacha Inchi's origin story, Laos and Malaysia offer identical botanical conditions with shorter supply chains to Asian markets, lower carbon footprint, and USDA organic compliance at competitive cost โ a story virtually no publication has covered.
- Plant-based omega-3 without fish: As ocean overfishing pressures grow and consumer concern about mercury rises, cold-pressed Sacha Inchi oil offers a high plant-source ALA content with a rare, favorable omega-3 to omega-6 balance โ a direct challenge to fish oil's dominance in the supplement aisle.
- The allergen-free protein gap: Sacha Inchi protein is free from soy, gluten, dairy, and all 14 major EU allergens, while containing all nine EAAs โ filling a genuine formulation gap for hypoallergenic sports nutrition and infant supplement development.
- Carbon-negative ingredient sourcing: Sacha Inchi is a forest-agroforestry crop that requires no deforestation, fixes nitrogen into soil, and can be intercropped with existing tree canopy โ positioning it as a rare commercially-viable "net-positive" ingredient for ESG procurement.
- ODM for emerging markets: Turnkey private-label softgel production at 50,000-capsule MOQ is opening supplement brand creation to mid-sized wellness companies in Southeast Asia and the Middle East that previously lacked access to GMP manufacturing.
"We built Asia Eco Farm to solve a problem we kept hearing from supplement brands: they wanted certified organic Sacha Inchi from a traceable source with reasonable minimums. The Peru supply chain is well-established, but it doesn't serve an Asian brand that needs 50-litre drums with organic certificates and a 3-week lead time."
